Core Values

Above is an example of "Core Values", or things that are important to you in life (priorities). Each Core Value shows a number which is a percentage. This percentage is the average for all of the habits in that particular Core Value. Along with that number there is also a color scale ranging from 0% (red) to 100% (green). Your Core Values are listed in order of how well you complete the related daily habits. Your best (or most important) Core Values are near the top, and the Core Values that you have the most trouble with, are towards the bottom.

Here is an example:

Let's say that you think Health is important, a high priority in your life. You would make "Health" one of your Core Values. In order to either get yourself healthy, or stay healthy, you will need some habits. These might include:

  • Exercise 30 minutes a day
  • Stop drinking soda
  • No snacking after dinner

Each day you would record your progress on the 3 habits above. You might exercise 80% of the time, maybe drinking soda is a real habit and you still drink it 50% of the time, and you have done really good with not snacking after dinner and completed this 95% of the time. If you take the average percentage for these 3 habits it would be 75%, and that is exactly what your percentage for your Core Value of "Health" would be. This is a great way to look at your priorities in life, and see how you are really doing!

The most important resource we have in this life is time. Tracking our habits and being able to look at how they affect our Core Values, is a wonderful way to see how we are using this resource.
