ContentsDaily To Do List SoftwareHabitMix Website (That's Us! :) ) HabitMix is a daily checklist website that allows you to record how you're going with your regular tasks. Perhaps you want to go to the gym three times a week, or clear your email inbox every Thursday or maybe you want to drop a bad habit like drinking sugar drinks. You can record how you went each day, write yourself inspirational messages and reminders that will popup when you visit HabitMix. Check out the example and free trial info at the bottom of the page. GetFlow Website Flow is an application that allows you to set up lists of to-do items. You can then send items to other people. If you were organizing an conference event for example you would be able to list all of the phone calls and catering tasks that needed to be completed and then send links to the lists off to your catering and admin managers. You could then check what tasks had or hadn't been completed. Flow is available via the web or mobile phone. SmartSheetWebsite SmartSheet is perhaps the next step up in complexity. It has the look of a spreadsheet and allows you to create, assign and track tasks. SmartSheet has some project management features such as Gantt and Calendar Views. CCToDoWebsite CCToDo integrated to-do lists with your email and allows you to synchronize tasks across your PC and phone. The CCToDo website primarily shows IPhone screenshots, for information about support on other platforms you should check out the detailed information on their website. MakeAPactWebsite MakeAPact is a new website that allows people to come together and commit to achieving a goal. Take a look, I'm sure the MakeAPact team would love to hear any feedback you have. Time Management
Have a System. Tidy people are tidy simply because they have an assigned place to put things. When something comes into their hands they know "this goes there." Messy people do not have assigned places to put things so each time something comes into their hands they need to stop and figure out where it should go, often the give up and just dump it in the most convenient location. The same holds true for time management, getting things done and daily tasks. Create a simple system for scheduling your time and prioritizing your tasks. Use your system every day.
Don't force it, don't try to change your nature, look for easy wins. It's tempting to imagine a new more organized version of yourself diligently getting work done and achieving every day. The problem is that you cannot maintain massive change for a sustained period of time. You will fall back into bad habits and feel like a failure. Instead be practical, look for small improvements, change your habits and become more effective gradually, rewarding yourself for each improvement. You can become more organized and effective but only one step at a time.
Find tools and techniques that work for you. Maybe you need reminder software so you don't have to keep so much information in your head. Perhaps you would benefit from a online daily checklist (like the one we offer here at HabitMix). Try out some tools, decide quickly on what suits your needs and start using them. It's easy to fall into the trap of gathering lots of information about getting organized rather than actually applying some of that information and being organized. Keep it simple and start today.
Build the right habits. Your habits dictate your destiny. |
Know the Why and you'll find the How
"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea."
Despite the doubts that cross your mind from time to time, you are in fact capable of changing your life, becoming more organized, achieving your goals and building the the life you desire. If you hit a hurdle and aren't sure what to do instead of analyzing the problem take some time to think about why you wish to solve it. Think about how you will feel when you have changed. Think about what achieving your goals will mean for your future and the future of the people around you. If you grow the WHY you will find the HOW. Story : The Eagle
A farmer found an eagle's nest on one of the rocky hills surrounding his farm. In the nest was a warm egg. The curious farmer decided to preform an experiment. He placed the egg in his hen house to see if one of his chickens would mother the egg. In time the egg hatched. The baby eagle grew up with the hens pecking for seed feed and sleeping in the hen house. Years later the now elderly eagle was in the yard when a movement in the sky caused it to look up. A majestic eagle was soaring overhead and the elderly bird thought for a moment "if only I had been born an eagle". Maybe you could take flight if you only knew what you were capable of. Useful Links

Willpower, desire and determination are like using an umbrella to avoid the rain.
They help but they are temporary, they are based on mood and moods come and go.
Willpower, desire and determination are great for getting you started but they
are not a long term solution.
If you really want to avoid the rain you don't grab your umbrella you move to a sunnier
location, like a sunny beach. If you really want to change your life you need to
change the practical circumstances of your environment and adopt new habits. New habits and
circumstances will ensure you act in new healthier ways no matter what your mood.
